Each of the Recognitions is closely related to the 5-PATH system of hypnotherapy that we use at The Hypnosis Center, Inc. The first phase is directed at getting the client started. We want the client to have a positive experience with hypnosis and to have a hopeful experience overall. The theme of the First Recognition is that of hope and starting anew.
This Recognition is designed to connect you with your Higher Power. It is our experience that long-lasting change occurs most often if the process used to make the change has a spiritual component. In addition to the First Recognition being a hypnotic induction, deepening and suggestion procedure, it is also both an invocation for—and an invitation to—your Higher Power to be part of this healing process.
All of the Recognitions given in this book are in their short form. There are complete forms of the Recognitions as I explained above. We only give the short forms because they are easier to use and require less of an adjustment at subconscious levels. For many people the complete form of the Recognitions would simply be too large a step to take.
Your therapist or 7th Path Teacher will probably speak with you about these as they seem appropriate to helping you meet your goals. Generally, only the short form of the Fourth Recognition is required and is automatically given as part of the process. All of the other extended versions of the Recognitions are designed to deepen, quicken or broaden the process, which of course are all good things to do.
As always, please feel free to ask your therapist or 7th Path Teacher any questions that come to mind. Also, remember that if you are not comfortable with spirituality you can use terms like "love," "family," etc.
All in all, we get a great deal from just four little words: "Delta renews my life." They work together in this process to be seven things:
1. A hypnotic induction, because they take you back into hypnosis.
2. A hypnotic deepening technique, because repeating them takes you deeper into hypnosis.
3. A hypnotic suggestion, because used in hypnosis they suggest a positive change.
4. An invitation for your highest beliefs or Higher Power to be a part of this change.
5. An invocation of that power because that which we focus on tends to be empowered.
6. An autosuggestion, because you can use it when you are not in hypnosis.
7. And if you wish, you could even call it a Meditation or a Prayer.
This list of seven is one of the reasons that this process is called the 7th Path™. This system of self-hypnosis was not named 7th Path™ because of the number of Recognitions, there are more than seven.
In the 5-PATH system of hypnotherapy our clients are helped to experience a connection with who they are. This is the real you. Imagine becoming who you really are as if you grew without all of that negative programming.
So it is with the Second Recognition. It is designed to remove all barriers to knowing how really loveable you are despite what others may have thought, said or done to you in your life. It is this false programming that leads the child that you once were into a state of fear, shyness or insecurity about herself. It does not matter where it came from. It only needs to be eliminated so that new, more positive thoughts, beliefs and feelings can be accepted.
This change affects so much in your life. How you experience your present state of affairs or how you expect your future to turn out is a direct reflection of your experiences in the past. It is your past experiences that have shaped who you are in this moment. Unfortunately, your first experiences were those of a child and, as a child, you did not have the kind of maturity and understanding of the world that you have now. Those initial pieces of programming are based on the perceptions of a child! Boy, if we only knew then what we know now! How that would have or could have changed our earliest perceptions that have led to our beliefs about ourselves and the world.
As erroneous programming is rejected and new more realistic and positive thoughts and beliefs are instilled, you begin to experience your present in a more realistic way, and your expectations regarding the future become more positive. Furthermore, your expectations, whether positive or negative, have an impact on what you experience now and eventually experience in the future.
A person with a preponderance of negative expectations in a particular area of her life tends to have just those kinds of experiences! Conversely, people who have positive and optimistic expectations tend to realize those experiences in life and generally be more successful at whatever they set out to do.
